MOVADO BRAND STATEMENT
Founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1881, Movado earned almost 100 patents in its first 100 years, a testament to its technological excellence and forward-thinking design philosophy.
Widely recognized for its legendary Museum Watch, Movado has become synonymous with the clean, modern lines that originated in the Bauhaus design movement of the 1920s. Movado's classic Museum Watch, defined by a single dot at 12 o'clock symbolizing the sun at high noon, is widely regarded as the purest way to conceptualize time. The famous numberless dial, designed in 1947 by American artist Nathan George Horwitt, is part of the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Today, the popular Museum Watch has evolved into a full range of styles including: the striking Movado Museum Automatic, its fine 21-jewel self-winding movement visible through its exhibition case back
the fashionable Movado Timema , its petite Museum dial set inside a slender asymmetrical case
and the distinctive Movado Trembrili with a bracelet of small dot-shaped links that pay homage to the dot on Movado's signature Museum dial. This year, there will be several introductions featuring the legendary Museum dial including: the Movado Strato, an ultra-sleek timepiece family featuring a unique domed sapphire crystal that covers both the dial and the bezel the fashionable and feminine Movado Rondiro, its bracelet composed of polished C-shaped links
and the Movado Dolca, a retro-chic timepiece with a cushion-shaped case and bold cushion-shaped links.
International actress Mía Maestro who currently stars in the hit TV series Alias, joins Movado's prestigious cast of legendary performers and artists which includes Grand Slam tennis champion Pete Sampras, jazz sensation Wynton Marsalis, New York City Ballet principal dancer Darci Kistler, distinguished classical violinist Sarah Chang, and internationally renowned singer/actress Karen Mok Ma-wai.
The Movado ad campaign marries dramatic images of these renowned personalities with photography of its iconic timepieces on a signature black background. Celebrating Movado's commitment to exceptional performance and high-concept design, this campaign is also expression of the brand's longstanding appreciation and support of culture and the arts. Movado is a major supporter of the New York City Ballet, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Miami International Film Festival and the Miami City Ballet.
In recent years, Movado has expanded into retail, opening 24 Movado Boutiques that offer an array of products - exclusive jewelry designs, distinctively styled home décor objects, personal and desk accessories and gifts - that all reflect Movado's modern design philosophy. Additional store openings are planned this year.
The company is headquartered in Paramus, New Jersey and maintains design and manufacturing facilities in Bienne, Switzerland. Movado has earned world renown for innovative watch design for over a century, and with it, exceptional worldwide brand recognition. Today, Movado continues to create revolutionary designs of quality Swiss craftsmanship.
