L’histoire d’Edox commence en 1883 par une simple histoire d’amour lorsque Christian Rüfli-Flury, alors maître-horloger hors-pair à Granges, décide d’offrir à son épouse Eva-Maria pour son 25ème anniversaire une montre de poche qu’il conçoit lui-même. Eva-Maria, touchée et impressionnée par la beauté de son cadeau persuade alors son mari de fonder en 1884 à Bienne sa propre société horlogère, qu’il baptise « Edox ».

Depuis, les 125 années d’existence de la société Edox ont été jalonnées de succès et d’inventions horlogères, certaines restées à ce jour encore inégalées.

En 1983 et faisant face à la crise horlogère, Victor Strambini rachète la société Edox et décide de s’établir aux Genevez, au cœur du Jura suisse.
Plus tard, en 1998, le succès majeur d’Edox réside en un modèle à calendrier extra-plat dont le mouvement fait à peine 1,4 mm d’épaisseur, la fameuse Les Bémonts Ultra Slim. Ce record du monde de la montre la plus fine avec calendrier est invaincu à ce jour.

Dès 2006, Edox lance une collection de montres sportives étanches à 500 mètres, pourvues de matériaux issus de la recherche aérospatiale, tels que le titane, le carbone ou la céramique.
La passion d’Edox pour la perfection technique la mène tout naturellement au monde des sports nautiques tout d’abord avec les bateaux de luxe, puis avec les bateaux de courses de vitesse.

En novembre 2006, Edox devient chronométreur officiel du Championnat du monde des bateaux Class-1, les fameuses Formule 1 des mers.
En 2008, Edox s’engage encore plus dans le sponsoring sportif en devenant le partenaire chronométreur officiel du célèbre Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC).
En 2009, Edox devient le chronométreur officiel du Championnat du monde des rallyes FIA (WRC). Une collection WRC voit le jour, dont le modèle Chronorally qui est équipée d’un mouvement spécialement développé pour Edox et qui permet diverses fonctions de chronométrage de courses.
En 2010, Edox signe un partenariat exclusif avec le plongeur apnéiste autrichien Christian Redl. La collection Iceman s’inspire de ce spécialiste mondial de la plongée en apnée sous la glace. Christian Redl détient le record du monde de plongée en apnée sous la glace, avec -61 mètres dans une eau à 2 degrés.
En 2012, Edox devient le chronométreur officiel du Rallye Dakar.

Depuis ses débuts, Edox a une vision bien précise de son développement grâce à ses idées innovatrices et sa recherche perpétuelle du design tout en respectant la tradition et le savoir-faire horloger. Edox est ainsi devenue une référence dans le monde du chronométrage des compétitions de sports nautiques.

Edox’s story began back in 1883 with a simple love story. Christian Rüfli-Flury, an exceptionally gifted watchmaker in Granges, decided to give his wife, Eva-Maria, a pocket watch that he had designed himself for her 25th birthday. Touched and impressed by the beauty of her husband’s gift, Eva-Maria persuaded him to found his own watchmaking company in 1884, which he named “Edox”.

The 128 years of Edox’s existence have been studded with success and horological inventions, some of which remain unrivalled even to this day.

In 1983, in the face of a watchmaking crisis, Victor Strambini took over Edox and decided to relocate the company to Les Genevez, in the heart of the Swiss Jura mountains.
Later, in 1988, Edox achieved major success with the famous Les Bémonts Ultra Slim, an ultra-slim calendar watch featuring a movement that was scarcely 1.4 mm thick. This world record for the slimmest calendar watch remains unbroken to this day.

In 2006, Edox launched a collection of sports watches, water-resistant to 500 metres and incorporating materials derived from aerospace research, such as titanium, carbon and ceramic.
Edox’s passion for technical perfection quite naturally led the company into the world of nautical sports, initially involving luxury boats, and later powerboats.
In November 2006, Edox became the official timekeeper for the Class-1 Powerboat World Championships, the famous Formula 1 of the seas.
In 2008, Edox became further involved in sports sponsorship by becoming the official timekeeper for the famous Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC).
The following year, Edox became the official timekeeper of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). A WRC collection was launched, featuring a unique Edox-engineered movement housed in the Chronorally model, allowing several race functions.
Two years later, in 2010, Edox signed a partnership with Austrian free-diver Christian Redl. The Iceman timepiece collection has been inspired by the foremost ‘under ice’ freediving specialist, who holds the freediving under ice world record with a dive to -61 meters in water at a temperature of 2 degrees.
In 2012, Edox has become the official timekeeper of the Dakar Rally.

Since its establishment, Edox has had a very clear vision of its growth and development thanks to truly innovative ideas and ceaseless design research, while at the same time maintaining the classic traditions of watchmaking know-how.
